Is it right for you?

What Invisalign can and can’t do

It may suit you if…

  • Your teeth are crowded or crooked
  • You have gaps or spacing you’d like closed
  • You have an overbite, underbite or crossbite
  • Your teeth have shifted after previous braces
  • You’d rather not wear metal brackets

It may not be the right fit if…

  • You have untreated decay or gum disease — that comes first
  • Your case involves significant jaw or bite correction
  • You’d struggle to wear them 20–22 hours a day
  • You’re under 18 — we don’t offer aligners for teens or children yet
Aligners only work while they’re in. They need wearing 20 to 22 hours a day, taken out only for eating and cleaning your teeth. If that sounds unrealistic for your life, say so at the consultation — fixed braces may serve you better, and Dr. Han will refer you.
The process

From first scan to final smile

01

Consultation and digital scan

Dr. Han checks whether aligners suit your case and takes an iTero scan — no putty impressions. You’ll see a projection of the planned result on screen before deciding anything.

02

Your plan and estimate

A treatment plan comes back with an expected number of aligners and a realistic timeframe. You get the cost at this point.

03

Your aligners arrive

Custom aligners are made for you. Dr. Han fits the first set, attaches any small tooth-coloured attachments needed, and shows you how to use them.

04

Wear and change

You change to the next set on the schedule Dr. Han gives you, wearing them 20–22 hours a day. Progress checks happen every few weeks.

05

Retainers

Teeth drift back without retention. A set of retainers is included, and wearing them as instructed is what keeps the result.

Most adult cases run somewhere between several months and around eighteen months, depending on how much movement is needed and how consistently the aligners are worn. Dr. Han will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation rather than a number now.

Planning

Seeing the plan before you commit

The iTero scanner takes a digital impression in a few minutes without impression material, and produces a 3D model Dr. Han can use to show you what’s proposed and what it won’t achieve.

  • No uncomfortable impression trays
  • A projection of your result before treatment starts
  • Records kept so progress can be compared
A projection is a plan, not a promise. The final result depends on your teeth, your gums and how consistently you wear the aligners.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does Invisalign cost?
Treatment is currently $5,000, reduced from $6,500, for cases starting before 31 August 2026. That covers the consultation, scan, your full course of aligners, progress checks and a set of retainers. Complex cases may be quoted differently — you’ll have the figure before you commit.
How long does it take?
Most adult cases run from several months up to around eighteen months. It depends on how much movement is needed and, honestly, on how consistently you wear the aligners.
Does it hurt?
Not usually painful, but each new set feels tight for a day or two — that pressure is the treatment working. Most people find it settles quickly.
Will it affect my speech?
Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days while the tongue adjusts. It almost always resolves.
How often do I have to wear them?
20 to 22 hours a day, out only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth. Wearing them less means slower treatment or a result that doesn’t match the plan.
Do you treat teens or children?
Not yet. Invisalign is currently available for adults at SmileCraft. We expect to offer it for teens and children in future.
Will insurance cover it?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan doesn’t cover orthodontic treatment for adults. Some private plans include orthodontic benefits, often with a lifetime maximum. We’ll help you check what yours does before you decide.
What happens after treatment?
You wear retainers, and you keep wearing them as instructed. Teeth drift back without retention — this is the part people underestimate. A set is included; replacements afterwards are charged separately.
What if I’m not suitable?
Dr. Han will tell you and explain why. Some cases are better treated with fixed braces or by an orthodontist, and she’ll refer you rather than take on something aligners can’t fix.
