Your first visit

What actually happens

Allow about 90 minutes for an adult check-up and cleaning. Shorter appointments are booked for younger children.

01

We ask before we look

What’s bothering you, what treatment you’ve had before, and how you feel about dental visits. If you’re nervous, say so — it changes how we go.

02

Examination and X-rays

Dr. Han checks your teeth, gums and bite, and takes any X-rays that are needed. She’ll show you what she’s seeing rather than just describing it.

03

Cleaning, then a plan

Your cleaning is usually done at the same appointment. You leave with a clear explanation of anything that needs attention and what it will cost,.

Why this matters: many clinics split the exam, X-rays and cleaning across two or three appointments. We do our best to complete a routine first visit in one, so you’re not taking time off work twice before anything is done.
Before you come

What to bring

Your insurance details

Policy and certificate numbers, or your CDCP letter. We’ll check your coverage and bill directly where we can.

A list of medications

Anything you take regularly, including supplements, and any medical conditions or allergies.

Previous records, if easy

Recent X-rays from another clinic can save you a repeat. If you don’t have them, that’s fine — don’t delay your visit over it.

Arrive a few minutes early to complete your health history, or ask us to email the forms ahead so you can fill them in at home.

Cost and coverage

Knowing what you’ll pay

You’ll get the expected cost before any treatment begins. If something isn’t covered, we’ll tell you before it’s done, not after.

  • Direct billing to most major insurers where available
  • Canadian Dental Care Plan patients welcome — we bill Sun Life directly for eligible covered services
  • Clear costs before treatment
Booking for children

Bringing the family

Children are welcome from their first tooth. When you book online, choose the appointment that matches your child’s age — the times differ because what happens at the visit differs.

  • Ages 0–5 — exam and cleaning, 30 minutes
  • Ages 6–12 — checkup and cleaning, 40 minutes
  • Ages 13 and up — checkup and cleaning, 90 minutes

There’s a dedicated play area, and weekend appointments mean fewer missed school days.

If you’re nervous

It’s more common than you’d think

Plenty of our patients hadn’t seen a dentist in years before they came in. Nobody will make you feel bad about that — it’s far more useful to start from where you are.

  • Tell us at booking, and we’ll allow extra time
  • Dr. Han explains each step before doing it, and stops when you ask
  • Oral sedation is available for patients it suits
  • You can come in just to talk first, without treatment

Questions

Common questions from new patients

Are you taking new patients?
Yes — adults and children. You can book online or call us on (604) 559-2212.
How long will my first appointment take?
About 90 minutes for an adult check-up and cleaning. Children’s appointments are shorter: 30 minutes for ages 0–5 and 40 minutes for ages 6–12.
Will I get a cleaning at the first visit?
Usually, yes. For a routine new-patient visit we aim to complete the examination, any necessary X-rays and the cleaning in one appointment. Occasionally more time is needed — if so, we’ll explain why before you leave.
Do you bill my insurance directly?
We direct-bill most major insurers where the plan allows it. Bring your policy details and we’ll check what’s covered. Coverage decisions are made by your insurer, not by us.
I haven’t been to a dentist in years. Is that a problem?
No, and it’s more common than you’d think. Tell us when you book so we can allow extra time. Nobody will lecture you.
What if I need something you don’t do here?
Dr. Han will explain what makes a case more complex and arrange the referral, staying involved rather than leaving you to organise it.
Where do I park?
There’s free parking on site at Willoughby Town Centre. We’re at 7980 206A Street, Unit A110.
